PhD in School Psychology
The PhD in School Psychology program at UTSA provides academic and practical training necessary for a career as a scientist-practitioner and professional health service psychologist (with eligibility for licensure as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology and Licensed Psychologist through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, as well as certification as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist).
Graduates will contribute to the academic, emotional, and social-behavioral well-being of children and adolescents through direct and indirect services, as well as to the science that informs psychological practice. The program includes advanced coursework and field-based experiences in psychological assessment, intervention, consultation, learning, development, research, statistics, and professional issues. Students also complete a full-time internship in a school or other mental health setting.
Support for PhD Students
Mentorship
All School Psychology PhD students receive one-to-one mentoring, including regular program advising, regular reviews of progress towards program milestones, regular evaluation of performance, and regularsupport with the research dissertation
Financial Support*
Financial support (in for the form of Graduate Assistantships and Tuition Support [see below]) is available, but is limited and is competitive. Not all students offered admission to the program will be offered financial support*. Decisions regarding financial support communicated via admissions offers letters.
Graduate Assistantships*
School Psychology PhD students will gain research experience through paid Graduate Assistant positions (not available to all students*)
Tuition Support*
School Psychology PhD students are awarded significant financial support for program tuition and fees (not available to all students*)
